Since the psychedelic revolution of the 60’s, recreational psychedelic use has been commonplace at music festivals and events across the world. Unfortunately, the lack of appropriate standardized dosing recommendations, quality control of purity and strength, use of multiple substances simultaneously by individuals, and a lack of support for individuals who choose to take psychedelics sometimes results in individuals experiencing negative and even potentially life-threatening consequences from the recreational use of psychedelics in these environments.

I am a part of a professional team of instructors who founded and created the Subtle Winds Psilocybin Facilitator Program. Our group of experts come in part from the long tradition of festival medicine and crisis support programs here in Oregon that stretch back to early 70’s rock concerts like the Grateful Dead and festivals like the Oregon Country Fair. The harm reduction model that emerged from those efforts to keep folks safe, blends psycho, spiritual, and socially minded therapeutic approaches with an emergency medicine set of protocols to intervene when necessary in an appropriate fashion.

The Subtle Winds team is made up of doctors, social workers, therapists, crisis workers, plant medicine experts, nurses, and paramedics who are steeped in this tradition of person centered and harm reduction focused care for individuals who find themselves having a difficult psychedelic experience. Many of us have been supporting individuals for decades by providing psychedelic harm reduction at festivals and events. Our Psilocybin Facilitator training program will build on that collective knowledge to provide top quality training to those interested in becoming guides and facilitators. We are always expanding our community and collaboration is one of our core values, so please reach out if you are interested in assisting in our efforts to support this new approach to wellness and healing.
